Information Security and Assurance taught me about security and encryption, this module was interesting because it explained the various threats to computers and networks. This module showed me how prime numbers are used to generate keys and how the keys are used to encrypt and decrypt information. This used the algorithm that was shown in the previous year (Fermat) and a small prime number was chosen to show how the encryption and decryption using modulo exponentiation.
This module also taught me about trust and how protocols can be intercepted, both RSA and Diffie Hellman key exchange was explained and the advantages and disadvantages of using both for securing a session. Encryption was performed in many algorithms including AES and DES was explained, this was done using the OpenSSL security suite in Linux. Having the LPI Essentials made this module easier as i can use the Linux command line with ease.
